Using an Argumentative Essay Outline – Getting ‘A+’

If your high school or college writing projects require essays that are structured in a particular way, then you must know how to make an argumentative essay outline. Usually written out in the five-paragraph structure, an argumentative essay outline consists of a thesis statement, body paragraphs, a conclusion, and a call to action. Logically, all of these three paragraphs will have a different structure to them, so understanding them from a reader perspective will really help ensure a smooth writing experience. But the structure itself can be made much easier with the use of some templates. Let’s look at how we can make an argumentative essay outline using these three points.

The first point in our outline is to identify and analyze your topic. Do you plan to write about a specific event or problem that happened in time past, or is it something that happened recently? Once you’ve identified your topic, you can use this as the basis for the rest of your argumentative essay outline. If the topic is recent news events, for instance, you could outline your argument by using “”who, what, when, where, why…”” to encapsulate your argument. You could also outline your arguments based on how logical or how convincing you feel the facts and evidence are, or you could utilize vague arguments to show why your point of view is the only reasonable one.

The second point in our argumentative essay outline is the introduction. This is where you begin to paint a picture of your topic – a summary of the key arguments and evidence that you plan to use throughout your paper. This is your “”hook”” in that it will draw readers into reading your main arguments in more detail.

One thing you might want to take into consideration when writing an argumentative essay outline is how you might write something like this: “”If you look at history, we see that individuals who ate insects were smarter than those who didn’t.”” What you’re doing here is drawing an all-important relationship between human beings and the nature of the universe. Insects are tiny yet vital forces of nature that must be understood and respected. By writing this argument, you’ve taken the first step toward proving your point with scientific proof. If you were to follow through on this claim, it would surely have worldwide appeal and result in a major shift in how humankind thinks about and responds to the world around us.

The third point in our three-pronged argumentative essay outline is the main body paragraphs. In this part of the document, you’re going to start writing about your main points. Don’t worry about being concise; as long as you’re able to effectively convey your ideas in a way that’s captivating, original, and highly-argued, you’ll do well. Your main body paragraphs should be supported by an introduction to your topic, and then a conclusion that discusses these important points in greater detail. You can use the body of your work to support and strengthen your main points.

There you have it! Your argumentative essay outline template is finally done. The most important thing here is that you are able to effectively communicate your ideas. Using an outline helps you stay focused and on task. In order for you to produce argumentative essays that really stand out from the rest, you need to carefully think about what you’re saying, and how you’re saying it.
